Hello Explorers,

At Broad View, we want to highlight the many benefits of regular school attendance for your child. When students come to school consistently, they not only stay on track with their academic progress but also build important social and emotional skills. Regular attendance helps children develop strong study habits, improve their confidence, and create lasting friendships with their peers.

By attending school every day, students are more likely to succeed academically and feel more connected to their school community. Every day counts, and we encourage you to make school a priority to ensure your child’s success both now and in the future. If you need support please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can reach our nurse at 360.279.5268. You can reach our counselor at 360.279.5270.

Thank you for your continued support in helping your child thrive!

PTA Penny Wars
We are getting ready for Penny wars next week. This is an exciting event where classes will compete to raise the most points. Here's how it works:

Each morning between 8:30 and 9 am we will have bins in the galleria labeled for each class (K-4) for students to drop their pennies and coins in. They can put pennies in their class bin to add 1 point for each penny. OR they can sabotage other classes by putting silver coins in other classes bin to count as negative points. Dollar bills can count as either 100 points positive or negative (the student can choose). There will be PTA members helping in the morning and then counting to tally up points each day. The grade with the most points at the end of the week will win a chance to pie the Principal or other staff members.

News From The Library
Happy March!

In the library, we have been reading biographies and learning about Martin Luther King Jr., Ruby Bridges and other great leaders during Black History Month.

This month, in March we will be continuing our BVE Book Battle and voting on our favorite picture books, so far We Are Going To Be Pals is in the lead.

Please continue to encourage your student to read at least 20 minutes each night!

Happy Reading!

Family Fitness Tip
Interested in getting out for some fresh air and exploration? We highly recommend Bowman Bay. Enjoy the trails and scenery of this northern area of Deception Pass State Park. The park offers beautiful views of the San Juan Islands across Rosario Strait. This park also is home to a new playground - check it out!
Good news! March has two FREE days for Washington State Parks. This means you can enter your favorite state park without a Discover WA Pass on:

  • March 9 — Billy Frank Junior's Birthday (advocate for tribal fishing rights)
  • March 19 — State Parks 112th Birthday

Attendance Matters
Good attendance helps children do well in school and eventually in the workplace. Good attendance matters for school success, starting as early as prekindergarten and throughout elementary school. By middle and high school, poor attendance is a leading indicator of dropout. Developing the habit of attendance prepares students for success on the job and in life. We are lucky to have such great families at Broad View that partner with us to make sure students are at school every day.

SOAR (Supporting our Amazing Readers)
Our SOAR program begins in October. Each child in the 1st - 4th grades at Broad View receives reading instruction at their level. Students who receive LAP or Title reading support, resource reading support, and those on or above grade level are all engaged in small group reading instruction at the same time as their grade level peers. This prevents students from missing any core instruction in their classrooms and ensures that ALL students benefit from our Title and LAP programs.

Please look for the SOAR section of this year’s monthly Broad View newsletters for tips and tricks on how to support your readers at home.

As your LAP and Title teachers, we are here to partner with you in meeting your child’s reading needs.
