As we embrace the warmer days ahead,  we invite families to stay active outdoors when weather permits, enjoying this beautiful island we live on. Time outside together strengthens ties within the family and encourages an active lifestyle.
Beyond the classroom, our school thrives on the support of our community, where every effort, big or small, contributes to the well-being and success of our children. By working together, we create an environment where every child can flourish. As we begin the last two months of the school year, we uphold the importance of consistent attendance.  Regular attendance is essential for students to receive the full range of instruction, support, and experiences they need to confidently and successfully progress to the next grade level. Steady attendance nurtures a sense of belonging within our school community, and when we collaboratively remind students how valued they are and the importance of their presence in school, we can encourage each student to be present, engaged, and with the best chances of success for their future.

Thank you for your continued partnership in shaping a bright future for our Explorer students.

Walk, Bike and Roll

May 7th is National Walk, Bike, & Roll to School Day, and we will have our own parade of students that morning!

We will meet down the street in the First Reformed Church (250 SW 3rd Ave) parking lot at 8:10 am. With a Fire Truck and Police leading the way, we will depart at 8:20 am to bike, walk, and roll to the school together. Don't forget your helmets! Parents are encouraged to accompany their riders and walkers.

So mark your calendars for this event as we promote health and recreation in our students and community. See you there!

Nurses Corner

With the arrival of nicer weather, activities like skateboarding, longboarding, biking, riding ATVs, and dirt biking become even more enjoyable. It's a great time to get outside and make the most of it, but it's also important to stay safe. These activities come with real risks, especially when it comes to head injuries. Wearing a helmet significantly reduces the risk of serious harm, and making sure it fits properly is key.

This site provides helpful tips on how to choose the right helmet and ensure a perfect fit, so you can ride confidently and safely.

News From The Library

Happy May!

Last month, we finished up our Poetry Unit and read about Earth Day and how we can help the planet by making small changes in our daily choices.

This month, we will continue to read books for our Book Battle and will also practice note-taking and finding text features for the older students.

As always, please continue to encourage your student to read! It is a great time to SPRING into a new genre or book series.

Happy Reading!

SOAR (Supporting our Amazing Readers)

Our SOAR program begins in October. Each child in the 1st - 4th grades at Broad View receives reading instruction at their level. Students who receive LAP or Title reading support, resource reading support, and those on or above grade level are all engaged in small group reading instruction at the same time as their grade level peers. This prevents students from missing any core instruction in their classrooms and ensures that ALL students benefit from our Title and LAP programs.

Please look for the SOAR section of this year’s monthly Broad View newsletters for tips and tricks on how to support your readers at home.

As your LAP and Title teachers, we are here to partner with you in meeting your child’s reading needs.

Attendance Matters

Good attendance helps children do well in school and eventually in the workplace. Good attendance matters for school success, starting as early as prekindergarten and throughout elementary school. By middle and high school, poor attendance is a leading indicator of dropout. Developing the habit of attendance prepares students for success on the job and in life. We are lucky to have such great families at Broad View that partner with us to make sure students are at school every day.
