Dear Explorers,

Happy June! As we close the 2024–2025 school year, I’ve been reflecting on what an incredible year it has been. Our students have shown tremendous growth and dedication, and we couldn’t be more proud of their hard work and accomplishments!

We are so grateful for the continued support of our amazing PTA, which brought enriching experiences to our students, including the science van and the color run. Our dedicated staff have worked hard to teach, guide, and support every student, and we are especially thankful for the strong partnerships we share with our families. Together, we’ve created a community where our students thrive.

As we head into these final weeks, we have some exciting activities planned to celebrate the end of the year. If you’d like to volunteer, please be sure to submit your volunteer paperwork in advance. If you prefer to attend as a guest, you can join us as a visitor—no paperwork is needed, but you must bring an ID to check in at the front office.

Thank you for a wonderful year. We hope you have a fun, safe, and restful summer!

In Partnership,

News From The Library

Happy June!

We have had an amazing year in the library! Students were introduced to a variety of different books, we had a Starbooks book tasting, read poetry, completed the BVE Book Battle, learned how to be good digital citizens online, and partnered with older students both at the OHI and the High school for reading buddies. We also learned about tortoises and got to interact with real tortoises, which was definitely a highlight. As summer approaches, please continue to encourage your student to read at least 20 minutes each day.

As always, happy reading!

Family Fitness Tip

Interested in getting out for some fresh air and exploration? We highly recommend you check out Fort Ebey State Park. On the western side of Whidbey Island, Fort Ebey was constructed as one of the many coastal defense forts during the Second World War. Its fort battery was dug into a high bluff and is great fun to explore for kids and adults alike. Don't forget your flashlight! The park also holds over 25 miles of walking and biking trails. If the wind is right, be on the lookout for people paragliding at this popular location as well!

SOAR (Supporting our Amazing Readers)

Our SOAR program begins in October. Each child in the 1st - 4th grades at Broad View receives reading instruction at their level. Students who receive LAP or Title reading support, resource reading support, and those on or above grade level are all engaged in small group reading instruction at the same time as their grade level peers. This prevents students from missing any core instruction in their classrooms and ensures that ALL students benefit from our Title and LAP programs.

Please look for the SOAR section of this year’s monthly Broad View newsletters for tips and tricks on how to support your readers at home.

As your LAP and Title teachers, we are here to partner with you in meeting your child’s reading needs.

Attendance Matters

Good attendance helps children do well in school and eventually in the workplace. Good attendance matters for school success, starting as early as prekindergarten and throughout elementary school. By middle and high school, poor attendance is a leading indicator of dropout. Developing the habit of attendance prepares students for success on the job and in life. We are lucky to have such great families at Broad View that partner with us to make sure students are at school every day.
