As you get ready for the first day of school, remember our office is here to help. We’re open weekdays from 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and 1:00–3:00 p.m., and can also be reached at 360.279.5250.

✨ Save the Date: Broad View Open House
Join us on Thursday, August 28, from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. to meet your child’s teacher, visit classrooms, and explore the school. Our office staff will be available to answer questions, collect medications, and assist with transportation or food service needs. Plus, our wonderful PTA will be there to connect with families and share how you can get involved!

Above you will find important dates for August and September to help you stay organized as we begin the year. We have a few new changes this year, noted below in this newsletter. Please make sure to read about our new buzz in system, and changes to our nutrition policy.Ā

We have many exciting family activities planned throughout the year, and we look forward to partnering with you to make 2025–2026 our best school year yet.

New Front Door System – What to Expect

This year, we’re introducing a new front door locking system to help keep our Explorers safe. Here’s what you need to know when visiting during school hours:

  • The front doors will stay locked.
  • You’ll see a device with a button and camera (it looks a lot like a video doorbell) near the entrance.
  • Press the button, and our front office team will be alerted.
  • Once buzzed in, please be ready to show a State or Government-issued ID.

We’ve also created a short video and a list of FAQs to make this new process easier. You can find both on the OHPS website.

Thank you for your patience as we all get used to this new system—we appreciate your support in keeping our school safe and welcoming!

New Nutrition Policy

Healthy Celebrations at School

We believe that healthy eating habits play a crucial role in student success. To support this, our school follows the guidelines outlined in OHPS Board Policy 6700. This policy ensures that only nutritious foods and snacks are allowed on campus. All food must meet or exceed the USDA Smart Snacks standards so students have access to balanced, healthy options.

The health and safety of all students is always our top priority. Many of our students have severe food allergies, and following this policy is essential to creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.

Beginning this school year, food items are not allowed for celebrations, holidays, or special events. We encourage families to consider fun and meaningful alternatives, such as:

  • Certificates of Achievement
  • Notes of Appreciation
  • Special school supplies (books, art supplies, etc.)
  • Special activities

Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a healthy, safe, and welcoming environment for every student. Together, we can build a thriving school community.

Free Meals This School Year šŸŽ
Some schools will be offering no-cost meals for all students this year! Visit our district website to see if your child’s school is included.

šŸ‘‰ Don’t forget: families must still complete a meal application every year. Submitting early helps schools keep the free meals program and qualify for important state and federal funding.

Reminder from the OHPS Transportation Department Ahead of New School Year

We are excited to welcome you and your student to the upcoming school year. Ahead of the first day of school, we wanted to provide an update and a few reminders as our team works hard to provide transportation to more than 1,500 students in the Oak Harbor Public Schools.

Families Must Request Transportation Every Year
Regular transportation is provided for students residing outside the one-mile walking area of their home school attendance area.
Even if your student received transportation services last school year, you must submit a transportation request every year. This ensures eligibility and keeps routes up to date every school year. Please submit your transportation request using the appropriate form located on theĀ OHPS website.Ā

SOAR (Supporting our Amazing Readers)

Welcome back! The SOAR team may look a little different, but we are all very excited to begin the 2025-2026 school year with our BVE families.Ā SOAR stands for Supporting Our Amazing Readers.Ā Ā The first through fourth graders will be taking the beginning-of-year iReady Reading, iReady Math, and DIBELS assessments within the first few weeks of school.Ā

The iReady Reading and DIBELS assessments will helpĀ us determine the levelĀ of reading supportĀ students will receive during SOAR each day.Ā All students in first through fourth grades attendĀ SOAR for thirty minutesĀ a day.Ā Students may receive instruction in phonics, fluency, comprehension strategies, or paragraph writing depending on what they need to improve and enhance their reading abilities.Ā We can't wait to get started.

Attendance Matters

Good attendance helps children do well in school and eventually in the workplace. Good attendance matters for school success, starting as early as prekindergarten and throughout elementary school. By middle and high school, poor attendance is a leading indicator of dropout. Developing the habit of attendance prepares students for success on the job and in life. We are lucky to have such great families at Broad View that partner with us to make sure students are at school every day.
